TONIGHT is the opening for the Little Green Pig production RICHIE directed by Jay O’berski.<p><a href=”http://vimeo.com/48418548″>Richie</a> from <a href=”http://vimeo.com/user3274755″>Nick Karner</a> on <a href=”http://vimeo.com”>Vimeo</a>.</p>
You may be expecting this to take place in one of LGP’s usual venues such as Manbites Dog theater*……..BUT you’d be wrong. Richie and her entourage of rich mean girls take to the streets of Durham to entertain their audience, and anyone who happens to catch the entourage while it’s on its bar-hopping bender.
Richie is an all-female adaptation of Shakespeare’s Richard II where Richie and her gaggle of party girls are taking on Cannes Film Festival….and hard. All the while her jealous cousin Haley is vying for her thrown as top mean-girl.
The play takes the audience on a wild ride through the bars and restaurants of the Rigsbee/Geer/Foster area of the DIY district including: Fullsteam Brewery, Motorco Music Hall, Geer St. Garden, Surf Club, The Bar Durham, and the Durham Skate park.
Full Disclosure: You may notice on the program that dtownMARKET’s Kala Wolfe (me) is the designer, with collaborative commissioned pieces by some of our favorite fashion designers including: Belindabilly, First Edition, Gypsy Witch, and Katharine Whalen. (shameless plug).
